8 Facts about the hunger games series
1) The plant that is Katniss’ namesake is also known as “arrowhead.”
2) Collins got the idea for Katniss’ story when she was channel surfing one night and kept seeing different reality TV shows on some channels, juxtaposed with footage from the Iraq War on others. She said that “these two things began to sort of fuse together in a very unsettling way.”
3) While on set, Jennifer Lawrence told Josh Hutcherson she could kick all the way over his head, but when she tried, she accidentally kicked him in the head and gave him a concussion.
4) Banks’ favorite Effie costume is the monarch butterfly outfit she wears at the reaping in Catching Fire. It’s made of feathers that were hand-painted to look like butterflies.
5) Jennifer Lawrence’s favorite Katniss costume is the gold dress she wears during the Tribute Parade in Catching Fire.
6) As a child, Lawrence’s nickname was “Plays With Fire.” When she was older, her parents told her it was because they had decided not to have any more children when she came along, and “they got burned.”
7) Jacqueline Emerson, who plays Foxface in the first film, accidentally gave herself a black eye during training. She wasn’t allowed to tell anyone she’d been cast in the film so she had to lie to her friends at school about how she got it.
8) Ultimately, Collins hopes people who read or watch the series will ask themselves “questions about how elements of the book might be relevant in their own lives,” like not taking your next meal for granted and being politically aware.

I absolutely love this song and after watching mockingjay part 1 I could not stop singing it. The lyrics are amazing and if she was singing it to Peeta then the words fit perfectly. 'If we met at midnight' of course reference to catching fire and their plan to meet again at midnight. 'In the hanging tree' could have been when Peeta saved her from starving when she was curled up under a tree outside the bakery. Also was the line 'dead man called out for his love to flee' really a coincidence that it was sung at the same time as when Peeta told her Snow's plan to bomb district 13?

◾All the living victors of District 12: Haymitch, Katniss and Peeta have killed Careers sometime in their Games. Katniss killed Glimmer, Marvel, Cato, Gloss, and a female from 4, Peeta killed Brutus, and Haymitch killed four unnamed Careers in his Games, including the District 1 female.
◾All of the living victors of District 12 have competed in a Quarter Quell.
◾All of the living victors of District 12 won their first Hunger Games at the age of 16.
◾All three living victors have comforted someone in their last moments: Katniss comforted Rue in the 74th Hunger Games, Peeta comforted the female morphling in the 75th Hunger Games and Haymitch comforted Maysilee Donner in the 50th Hunger Games.
◾According to The Hunger Games Adventures, District 12 is located on the East Coast of Panem and is the smallest district by size.
◾Each of the known victors from District 12 has done an act that makes the Capitol look foolish. Katniss and Peeta both almost ate the berries, knowing the Capitol need their victor, therefore both of them won. Haymitch used the forcefield as a weapon, because when the girl from District 1 threw her axe towards him, she didn't know it would come back, thereby getting an axe in her head, resulting in Haymitch's victory in the 50th Hunger Games.
◾Although it was one of the most targeted districts during the 2nd rebellion, District 12 never had an officially organized rebellion against the Capitol, as it was fire-bombed and destroyed early into the war.
◾In the film it is recognized that District 12 only has 3 victors. However in the first book it is said that District 12 has 4 victors. In the first chapter of The Hunger Games on page nineteen, Katniss states "Then he reads the list of past District 12 victors. In seventy-four years, we have had exactly two. Only one is still alive." Due to the first victor being dead, and Haymitch having been the only one for many years, it can be assumed that the first District 12 victor won a very early Hunger Games, and was possibly alive to mentor Haymitch.
◾According to the Capitol.PN, District 12 has 15 mines in operation with a population of 7,935, making it the smallest of the twelve operational districts, in terms of population.
◾It is considered the poorest district of Panem.

Can you believe that Katniss and Peeta are only 16 yet in catching fire they are set to be married by the capitol, they seriously get worse and worse as a society.

They play in the Meadow. The dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. The boy with blond curls and grey eyes, struggling to keep up with her on his chubby toddler legs. It took five, ten, fifteen years for me to agree. But Peeta wanted them so badly. When I first felt her stirring inside of me, I was consumed with a terror that felt as old as life itself. Only the joy of holding her in my arms could tame it. Carrying him was a little easier, but not much.
The questions are just beginning. The arenas have been completely destroyed, the memorials built, there are no more Hunger Games. But they teach about them at school, and the girl knows we played a role in them. The boy will know in a few years. How can I tell them about that world without frightening them to death? My children, who take the words of the song for granted:

My children, who don’t know they play on a graveyard. Peeta says it will be okay. We have each other. And the book. We can make them understand in a way that will make them braver. But one day I’ll have to explain about my nightmares. Why they came. Why they won’t ever really go away. I’ll tell them how I survive it. I’ll tell them that on bad mornings, it feels impossible to take pleasure in anything because I’m afraid it could be taken away. That’s when I make a list in my head of every act of goodness I’ve seen someone do. It’s like a game. Repetitive. Even a little tedious after more than twenty years.
But there are much worse games to play.
